FAQ
Who came up with this crazy idea?
Gift Card Giver was started by four friends: Andre and Jeff Shinabarger + Heather and Jason Locy. The vision is now being continued by The Shinabargers and is supported by a slew of giving individuals including a leadership board, generous donors, energetic volunteers, summer interns, and new idea generators. We need other crusaders to share this vision with their communities. We hope to attract a decentralized organization of advocates across the nation with as much passion for this vision as we embody.
How much of the gift card money is given to charity?
100%. Every penny (and we do get pennies on cards). All we do is collect the cards and distribute them to organizations and people in need.
How do I know you will actually send the card to a charity and not keep it for yourself?
Wouldn’t it be nice if you knew an organization that didn’t exist for any personal or corporate gain and actually did what they said? No strings attached and no scams. We are simply helping people in a new creative way. If you don’t believe us, check out our Giving Stories and see for yourself all the ways we’ve been able to affect change through gift cards. We think this is an idea worth believing in. We hope you will too.
Do I receive a tax credit for my gift card donation?
Seriously? No.
But, if you want to give a cash donation, you will receive a receipt for that donation. We are a DBA under the 501c3 organization of FCS Urban Ministries, which is who you will receive your receipt from for tax purposes.
What types of organizations receive the cards?
We find organizations and people that have the greatest needs for the types of cards you send us. See our Giving Stories for examples.
Do you really want the 97 cents left on my Starbucks card?
Yes. You would be amazed at how many cards we get under $1 and how big of an impact it will make long term, when combined with other cards.
